Production Network and Communications Engineer

Brief Role Description

We are seeking an experienced Production Network and Communications Engineer to join our team. In this full-time, primarily field-based role, you will work on-location on major feature film and high-end TV productions, ensuring on-set connectivity and communications run smoothly. You will be responsible for rigging, configuring, and supporting mobile network, internet and comms systems (including Starlink satellite internet, bonded 4G/5G solutions, network, RF & comms infrastructure). Role and Responsibilities

  • Deploy On-Set Internet Connectivity: rig and configure mobile internet solutions (Starlink satellite units and bonded 4G/5G cellular routers) to provide dependable high-speed connectivity on set.
  • Network Infrastructure Setup: set up and manage on-set network infrastructure including switches, wireless access points, and VLAN configurations, with proper IP addressing and network segmentation.
  • RF Systems (training provided): assist with the deployment and support of RF systems including COFDM for wireless video transmission and mesh networking; set up antennas, receivers and associated infrastructure; monitor spectrum usage and troubleshoot interference.
  • Comms Systems (training provided): deploy and maintain wireless crew communication systems including Riedel Bolero; ensure base stations, antennas and belt packs are configured and tested; provide technical support and troubleshoot dropouts.
  • On-Set Support: act as the point of contact on set for connectivity, streaming and communications support, working closely with DIT, Editorial, VFX, Camera and other departments.
  • Troubleshooting: monitor network performance and swiftly resolve connectivity or communication issues to minimise downtime.
  • Cross-Team Coordination: liaise with production IT, service providers, or off-site support teams to maintain robust service.
  • Equipment Maintenance: prep and test equipment at CineArk HQ before it goes to set, and perform routine maintenance; document configurations.
  • Unit Moves: assist with relocating equipment between production locations, which can take place overnight or on weekends.
  • CineArk Culture: demonstrate CineArk's values in all daily tasks and interactions.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Strong Networking Knowledge: deep understanding of networking principles and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching). VLAN configuration and IP addressing skills are absolutely essential.
  • Hands-On Experience: proven experience setting up and supporting network infrastructure; comfortable configuring routers, switches and Wi-Fi access points.
  • Flexibility & Adaptability: willingness to travel to filming locations and adapt to dynamic production schedules.
  • Client-Facing Skills: professional, service-oriented attitude; able to translate tech talk into plain language.
  • Problem-Solving Under Pressure: strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities in high-pressure situations.
  • Driving Licence: full UK manual driving licence – required.
  • Work Ethic: self-motivated and reliable, with excellent organisational skills.
  • Discretion: trusted to handle sensitive information in highly sensitive areas of film production.

Preferred

  • Firewall and security experience (VPNs, access control lists).
  • RF & communications knowledge; Riedel Bolero or similar a plus.
  • Networking certifications (CCNA Wireless, CCNA Security, MCSA, Cisco, CompTIA).
  • Exposure to media-over-IP standards (SMPTE ST 2110, AES67, PTPv2).
  • Prior experience in film, TV, or broadcast environments.

Working Conditions

  • Field-based at production sites — a mix of outdoor and indoor environments.
  • Travel is part of the job; productions film across the UK and occasionally abroad (travel/accommodation arranged or reimbursed).
  • Standard hours approx. 8:00am – 6:00pm, Monday to Friday, but flexibility is essential (early starts, late wraps, night and occasional weekend work). Overtime is paid.
  • May assist with unit moves (overnight or weekends), scheduled in advance and compensated.
  • Office/warehouse prep days at CineArk HQ when not on set.
  • Physical demands: lifting and rigging equipment, sometimes at height or in variable weather.
  • Holiday – 23 days per year plus UK bank holidays.
